ANQA continues to hold regular meetings with students to hear their observations and suggestions on issues related to education quality assurance. On October 31, ANQA held a meeting with the V. Brusov State University’s second-year master's students in the APs "Pedagogy" and "Education Assessment and Testing".
The discussions focused on the practical application of student knowledge, the role of teachers as researchers, and ways to enhance the educational process.
Practical application of knowledge
The students noted that the knowledge and skills gained at the HEI are important for their professional career, supporting the development of analytical thinking, effective problem-solving, and the enhancement of teaching quality. Meanwhile, it was highlighted that sectoral restrictions sometimes limit the full application of knowledge, for instance, in test design.
Practical experience and teacher support
The participants shared their internship practices, emphasising the role of psychological support and an individual approach to students. It was stressed that one of the key factors in effective teaching is assisting students in overcoming challenges and building an atmosphere of trust.
Modernisation of teaching methods
The students mentioned that modern educational environment requires the application of innovative teaching methods. They attached importance to the use of game-based and creative methods, tailored to students’ age peculiarities and interests. It was emphasised that the right choice of methods helps make lessons more engaging and motivating.
Creative and research thinking
The importance of teachers role as researchers was highlighted. According to the students, a modern teacher should be capable of studying, analysing and improving their own practices through data-driven and research-oriented approaches. Meanwhile, it was stated that HEI education should foster the cultivation of research thinking among students.
Analytical and critical thinking
The role of teachers in the development of students' analytical and critical thinking skills was addressed. It was highlighted that through well-structured questions and analytical approaches, teachers can contribute to students' independent thinking and capacity to draw reasoned conclusions.
Formative assessment and feedback
The students highlighted the role of formative assessment as an important tool for the enhancement of teaching quality. They believed that assessment should prioritize capturing and fostering progress over simply identifying gaps. It was also pointed out that the lesson effectiveness directly depends on the teachers’ ability to create an engaging and stimulating environment.
The meeting participants agreed that a modern teacher should combine research, methodological and creative skills to keep the educational process dynamic and effective.
ANQA’s student discussions serve as a key platform for listening to students, co-developing measures to enhance education quality, and amplifying students’ voices in the higher education system.
