"The teacher professional development programme (TPD) on formative assessment represents an initial step towards systemic change, with its impact depending on broad dissemination. Participants are encouraged to transfer and implement the acquired competencies to ensure the integration of formative assessment into VET practice," Ruben Topchyan, ANQA’s acting director.
On April 30, the online closing session of the programme “Support in Designing and Implementing a Pilot Teacher Professional Development (TPD) Activity on Formative Assessment in the Republic of Armenia” took place. The discussion brought together representatives from the RA VET policy-making agencies, the European Training Foundation, experts, and programme participants.
The session summarised the programme outcomes focused on the development of formative assessment practices in the VET system and explored opportunities for their further systemic integration.
The project was launched in 2024 following the outcomes of the European Training Foundation’s peer visit hosted by ANQA.
Ruben Topchyan highlighted in his speech that the effective use of formative assessment is possible only if teachers are equipped with the relevant skills. According to Dr. Topchyan, formative assessment goes beyond tool application and requires a shift in mindset, the development of methodological competencies and a reconsideration of the teaching process.
Meanwhile Ruben Topchyan attached importance the employer engagement in the assessment process, noting that assessment requirements should meet the demands of the labour market. This approach enables alumni to gain employer-required practical skills during their studies.
