On June 9, ANQA conducted a monitoring of the internal quality assurance system at the Armenian State Institute of Physical Culture and Sport and its "Sportus" Basic College. The goal was to observe the state of the internal education quality assurance system, the impact of accreditation on the education institution's QA system and the steps for the follow-up plan implementation.
As part of the monitoring, meetings were held with the education institution's management staff, heads of chairs, teachers and students.
The following key issues were addressed:
- Whether self-audit mechanisms of academic programmes (APs) lead to real enhancements
The discussion examined the practical impact of self-audit mechanisms, the need for structural review and budgetary balance, as well as the importance of well-defined assessment criteria, pilot changes and AP outcomes.
- Whether reliable and regularly updated data are used in the managerial decision-making process
Reference was made to the practice of data-driven decision-making, highlighting issues related to QA audits, focus groups, methodological revisions and the absence of clear assessment criteria.
- Whether the APs ensure curricular continuity in the transition from VET institutions to HEIs
The discussion focused on the alignment of curricula with modern requirements, the relevance of integrated education and the need to enhance assessment systems and a student-centred approach.
- Whether the programmes sufficiently support the coaches’ professional development
It was highlighted that the programmes should aim at professional development, foster students' critical thinking, strengthen the role of teachers and employ structured examination formats to verify all learning outcomes.
At the end of the monitoring, during the meeting with the management staff, the education institutions’ achievements and enhancement opportunities were discussed. It was stressed that the upcoming self-evaluation should provide the basis for the next strategic plan. The need to clarify assessment criteria and effectively apply AI in educational processes was emphasised.
It was recommended to consider using a structured examination format to verify all outcomes during the final attestation.
