On March 24, an online workshop was held as part of the Erasmus+ “Fostering Socially Distanced and Inclusive on-Campus Education in Armenian HEIs” (eCAMPUS) project, focusing on the approaches to internal quality assurance of digital teaching, learning and assessment.
The workshop was organised by ANQA in cooperation with Yerevan State University, the project coordinator.
At the opening of the meeting, Ruben Topchyan, ANQA's acting director, delivered welcoming remarks, attaching importance to the development of coherent and systematic approaches to the QA of digital teaching in Armenian HEIs. Varduhi Gyulazyan, head of ANQA’s Institutional and Programme Accreditation Division, then outlined the key outcomes of the activities conducted as part of the eCAMPUS project, highlighting their contribution to IQA capacity building in HEIs.
A key element of the workshop was the presentation of European best practices. Participants explored the practices of partner HEIs from Sweden, Spain, Italy and Portugal in the development of QA systems for digital teaching. This benchmarking exercise provided an opportunity to reconsider their potential applicability in the local context.
The discussions highlighted that digital education is no longer considered a supplementary component, but an integral part of the higher education system. Meanwhile, particular emphasis was placed on the examination of practices gained during the COVID-19 pandemic as a foundation for future education policy development.
Particular attention was also paid to the increasing role of AI in digital education. It was noted that AI can contribute significantly to the development of teaching content, the analysis of student progress and the effectiveness of assessment process. Meanwhile, related risks were highlighted, specifically those concerning academic integrity, assessment reliability and data protection. In this context, it was emphasised that the use of AI should be guided by clear methodological approaches and relevant QA mechanisms.
The workshop provides a basis for benchmarking the approaches applied in Armenian HEIs and facilitates the exchange of best practices in digital education. It also serves as an important foundation for the development of systematic processes for QA of digital teaching.
The workshop brought together representatives from eCAMPUS partner HEIs and other Armenian HEIs to promote the exchange of practice, benchmarking and dissemination of best practices.
