On September 24, an online workshop was held as part of the Erasmus+ eCAMPUS project, exploring the European approaches to digital teaching platforms and smart classrooms and the development of relevant standards for Armenian HEIs. The workshop was coordinated by the Institute for Informatics and Automation Problems of NAS RA.
The workshop was organised as part of Work Package 4 (WP4) of the Erasmus+ eCAMPUS project. It aimed to examine European partners’ practices in light of the current needs of Armenian HEIs and to identify key criteria and indicators that could underpin the development of effective e-learning platforms and modern digital learning environments.
The European partners introduced their practice in the development of digital education ecosystems and future-oriented learning environments. The modern concept of a smart classroom was also addressed, with an emphasis on the fact that it extends beyond technical equipment alone. The discussion also covered the use of multimedia tools, assessment approaches, inclusiveness and the integration of AI into the educational process.
The Armenian partner HEIs shared their practice, highlighting the e-learning platforms currently in use, the capabilities of smart classrooms and the existing needs and gaps. Presentations were delivered by representatives from the Yerevan State University, Khachatur Abovian Armenian State Pedagogical University, Yerevan State Medical University after Mkhitar Heratsi and the National Polytechnic University of Armenia.
The discussions focused on the transition from the use of separate digital tools to the establishment of an integrated and interconnected digital learning ecosystem. Reference was also made to the key requirements for effective e-learning platforms and smart classrooms.
The European and Armenian partners discussed the key areas of the standards under development, distinguishing between essential requirements and more advanced components. They also considered which solutions drawn from European HEIs’ practices can be adapted to the Armenian context, how the approaches had been revised during implementation and what challenges can be avoided when designing new systems.
The discussions highlighted that the development of digital learning environments goes beyond the introduction of new technological solutions. Equally important is the interconnected use of existing systems and their effective integration into the educational process. The standards under development are intended to cover not only technical requirements, but also the quality, accessibility and inclusiveness of education, effective assessment and student-centred teaching.
The workshop ended with a summary of the key discussion outcomes and an outline of the main areas for the further development of standards for digital teaching platforms and smart classrooms.
The Erasmus+ eCAMPUS project aims to enhance the quality of digital teaching and learning in Armenian HEIs, supporting the development of digital competencies, modern learning environments and the introduction of QA approaches to digital education.
