ANQA is expected to accredit nearly 70 academic programmes (APs) at the Yerevan State University (YSU). The first stage of the process has launched with the cluster of APs “Oriental Studies”.
This represents a significant step for the higher education system. Armenia’s largest HEI has placed the AP quality at the core of its development agenda, highlighting their professional, systematic and independent evaluation.
To support the effective implementation of the process, ANQA organised a workshop at YSU on June 3, bringing together the group responsible for the preparation of the self-evaluation of the Faculty of Oriental Studies' APs, representatives of the chairs and the teaching staff.
The workshop addressed how the AP can more clearly articulate its mission, the competencies expected of graduates and the learning pathway through which students achieve these outcomes.
Particular importance was attached to the approach that the AP is not just a set of individual courses. Rather, it should be viewed as an integrated pathway for the students' professional development, where each course has its own clear role and ensures the achievement of the overall intended outcomes.
This cluster approach enables to first gain the overall picture of the APs, their common features and development areas and then proceed to a more detailed evaluation of each programme.
The ANQA–YSU cooperation will continue through a series of workshops and professional discussions to build institutional capacity for self-evaluation, mapping, and continuous quality enhancement of APs.
Education quality begins with academic programmes. The launch of the process at YSU demonstrates the institution's commitment to making the AP quality a key development priority.
