On May 6, ANQA held an online workshop on programme accreditation via Zoom for education institutions undergoing programme accreditation.
The series of workshops aims to introduce VET institutions to the programme accreditation criteria, their interpretation and practical approaches to their application.
The first workshop focused on academic programme (AP) development, their structure and rationale, as well as the approaches through which education institutions should demonstrate that their programmes are designed to ensure effective implementation and foster the development of students’ professional competences.
During the discussions, participants shared medical VET institutions' practices in the AP implementation, addressing the organisation of practical teaching, cooperation with healthcare institutions, employer engagement and mechanisms for the assessment of student competences.
It was highlighted that accreditation processes should move beyond overly general statements and provide specific examples, methods, practical approaches and measurable outcomes. It was noted that statements such as “our graduates are competitive” or “we provide practical teaching” are insufficient unless supported by evidence, data and analysis.
The series of workshops on programme accreditation will continue, highlighting the programme accreditation criteria and practical aspects of their application.
